Hey, I'm Eric

I recently graduated from Old Dominion University with a major in information systems and technology and a minor in cyber security. I made this site to elaborate on what you should have already seen in my resume. If you don't have that already, there's a link to a contact form below, hit me up.

Education

Old Dominion:

I'm a recent graduate of Old Dominion University with a major in Information Systems and Technology and minor in Cyber Security. Interestingly enough, that major is part of the school of business at ODU. Because of this, I have a basic understanding of what is going on in various business functions.

Post College:

In addition to my time at ODU, I have continued my education through various means. On the more formal side I have taken a class for and passed the Security+ exam. Currently I am studying for the CSA+ and Network+ exams while looking for classes for both. Less formally, I am taking time to teaching myself how to build and launch a web site. Additionally, I am teaching myself Python and setting up a computer with Linux (possibly Kali) so I can gain some experience in that environment.

Spare Time

Learning:

I kind of already mentioned this in the post college education section, but I feel like it has a place here too. I really enjoy learning how to do stuff like web development and python to the point that I spend a lot of my free time pursuing it. In addition, I try to read about astronomy, biology, and science in general just to see what I can learn. Even if I don't get to use any of this knowledge in my career it is still worth it.

Art:

Art is a weird word for this section, but it's the best way to describe all the other things I enjoy. More recently I've become more interested in actual art, like the art in galleries. I think this has more to do with the fact that I still don't really get it than anything. I try to read a lot too, although lately it has been mostly study guides. That said, I'll read just about anything. For a large part of my life I have also been interested in games and game design. I've also been doing some photography lately (check me out on VSCO).

Fitness:

I probably spend most of my free time either in the gym or on a bicycle. It is something I picked up in my time at ODU and have continued to enjoy since graduation. It is actually where I get my best ideas a lot of the time. Even back in college, if I was having trouble figuring out an assignment going to the gym or riding around campus would help.

Work

Mason Neck:

Currently I work for Mason Neck State Park as a Contact Ranger and have done so off and on throughout my time in college. I have always seen this as an interesting opportunity, it gave me an introduction to how to interact with customers and handle money as well as some more unique skills. Because I am in a tiny shack in the middle of the woods all day I've had to learn how to work independently and improvise when needed.

Life Enrichment Center:

I've also had the opportunity to work with the Life Enrichment Center in Norfolk. The LEC's primary goal is teaching students who have fallen behind how to read. During my time there I worked with a kindergartner using both computer activities and actual books. More than anything, I think I learned how to teach and work through problems with people doing this. It also made me realize I want to do more charity in my life.
